All I can say, after just finishing this book, is wow! So far I have heard nothing but good things from Stephen King communities. People saying it's his best work since books like "The Shining." Now, I liked "Lisey's Story" very much. So, comments like that don't mean much to me, but I completely understand.
I can actually say I went through the full range of emotions with this book. It completely draws you into it's world and keeps a firm grasp on you. Unlike other King works, this book doesn't start off slow, and keeps your attention the whole way through. I don't remember ever wanting to put the book down or getting bored with it.
The story was great. A regular man's man who gets into an accident, where he loses his arm, breaks his hip, and cracks his skull. What comes after that? The man wants to end his life. His therapist comes along and tells him that he shouldn't do it NOW. That everybody would know it was suicide. So the therapist tells him to take a change of scenery and start doing something to pass the time. "Is there anything you like to do," asks his therapist. "Well, I used to draw," replies the armless man. What happens from then on you have to read to believe.
I would not be surprised to see a movie version of Duma Key in the works soon.
I would definitely recommend picking up Duma Key as soon as possible if you are into suspenseful horror!
